GPS for Lower Rates on Your Car Insurance Policy

According to recent reports, New York City officials are investigating how new GPS technology could help drivers save on their car insurance policy rates. A new in-car device would not only give drivers minute-to-minute traffic information and alert them to the least congested routes, it would also serve to record mileage for insurance purposes. A number of states have recently introduced the so-called “pay as you go” insurance, and it looks like New York is planning to join their ranks. In addition to providing traffic information and recording mileage, the device would record each driver’s driving habits, resulting in tailor-made insurance rates.

Car insurance policy options
Currently, “pay as you go” insurance policies are voluntary, and drivers are free to choose their own insurance policies. And while there are many drivers who welcome the option of paying per mile, hundreds of thousands of others who drive long distances every day prefer conventional car insurance policies. It’s important to understand, however, that mileage and driving habits are not the only factors to consider when selecting a policy.

Comparing insurance policies
No matter what your preference, comparing insurance before you commit to one policy is always a smart idea. Even if you’re satisfied with your current car insurance policy, a periodic review of other quotes can give you an indication of all available options. Insurance comparison websites offer a convenient way to get multiple quotes from reputable insurance companies. Once you’ve filled out your information in the online form, you receive quotes from your preferred companies in your mailbox, so you can compare them at your leisure and select the one that best fits your needs.
