On April 12, Wisconsin governor, Scott Walker, signed into law a bill that will lower the minimum legal coverage requirements for car insurance, effectively decreasing quotes on auto insurance for Wisconsin drivers on November 1, 2011. In some categories such as liability coverage, the legal minimum requirements on auto insurance will be halved, though the bill will still allow underinsured motorist coverage insurance to be voluntary. Consumers had been complaining about high quotes on auto insurance since state minimum requirements were raised, and this bill has been a focal point of the Republican campaign for the past two years.
Wisconsin Drivers Get Lower Quotes on Auto Insurance
Steve Witmer, an insurance company spokesman, expressed enthusiasm about the new legislation, and was quoted as saying “This allows consumers to consider their own needs and make those choices accordingly.” Wisconsin drivers are still free to choose additional options on top of liability insurance, but aren’t required to pay the high insurance rates of the past years.
